Maltese Registered Vessel in Fire Incident

A fire broke out on the Maltese registered vessel “Zenith” at the port of Firhamnen in Stockholm. The 47,413 ton-ship built in 1992 was alongside when the incident happened and most of the passengers were on shore excursions. As a precautionary measure, the master ordered the evacuation of the ship except for the essential crew members. The fire which was brought under control is said to have broke out at the lower part of the ship while maintenance was being carried out. The ship is stable and the Malta Maritime Authority together with the Swedish authorities are investigating the incident.
